JOB DESCRIPTION

 

TITLE:

CNC Operator

 

REPORTS TO:

Production Supervisor/Plant Manager

 

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:            

This position is responsible for operating all equipment required for the operation designed to produce the customer part.  Operate CNC & Automation Machining equipment and inspect sample parts and notifying management of potential non-conforming product.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Operation of CNC Machines and move material as required to operate

Troubleshooting machining operations

Maintains tooling to produce the required parts on every machine

Re-tool machine consisting of; insert changes, drills, end mills, cutting tools, etc.

Maintains and operates all the support equipment that may be required to minimize tooling requirements

Maintain production levels and complete daily production forms

Determine the necessary steps required to clear machine alarms as well as complete appropriate documentation

Inspects production parts and examines form and texture of parts to detect imperfections

Dismantles devices to gain access to and remove defective parts

Adjusts tooling and operator offsets to produce conforming parts

Lubricates and cleans equipment and parts

Perform and document any/all preventative maintenance as required

Adhere to all Health & Safety regulations, Quality procedures and work instruction

Other job related duties as required

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge

The incumbent must have expert knowledge in the following areas:

- Ability to read and interpret blueprints

- Ability to use and read measuring gauges

- Ability to work with mathematical concepts and apply concepts such as fractions, percentages and ratios

- Ability to troubleshoot complex systems and determine the cause of the particular problem.  Must be able to     determine if he/she can repair the problem with the tools and programming at hand or call for additional help

 - Must be knowledgeable with robotics and computer controlled equipment, intermediate software

- Knowledge of manufacturing environment

WORKING CONDITIONS

Physical Demands

This position requires the ability to continuously move (push/pull/lift) light objects, frequently required to move (push/pull/lift) moderately heavy objects and occasionally required to move (push/pull/lift) heavy objects up to 50lbs (23kg)

- Must be able to stand for extended periods of time

- Walk extensively throughout the plant for the duration of shift.
- Have the ability to regularly reach above the shoulder level
- Have the ability to use simple and firm grasping motions

- Have the ability to stretch/reach on a frequent basis

 

Mental Demands

- Have the ability to interact with all employees/clients in a professional and friendly manner despite periods of stress and continuous involuntary interruptions.

Environmental Conditions

While performing the essential functions of this job, the CNC Operator will work in an industrial environment and may encounter moving mechanical parts, Forklift traffic, congested work areas, slippery floors and moderate noise levels and heat, metal debris, lubricants, coolants and fumes

 

EDUCATION

Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent

Manufacturing experience an asset
