Community Engagement Specialist – summer & fall/winter positions

Location: Scales Nature Park, positions may involve local travel for outreach

Duration: Varies with position, minimum 8 weeks with extension up to one year internship possible

Salary: Varies depending on the position and funding. At or slightly above minimum wage.

Duties will include:

  • Monitor the reptile hotline, answer calls/texts/social media messages, and coordinate effective responses from field teams and community volunteers, as well as responding directly to calls when necessary
  • Assist with the coordination and delivery of community outreach programming to engage the community in turtle conservation and promote the use of the reptile hotline
  • Assist with the development of new strategies for community engagement within the target region, and development of volunteer training and related efforts
  • Assist with animal care, facility development, or field work as time allows and according to the interests of the candidate

Requirements:

  • Strong oral communication and writing skillsĀ 
  • Comfortable and charismatic
  • Passion for working with children, nature, and community members
  • Positive attitude and willingness to help people get over their fears are essentialĀ 
  • Superb organizational skills, experience with spreadsheets and calendars in Windows and Android
  • Flexible scheduling as client and animal needs affect plans, weekends and evenings required
  • Experience presenting to audiences of 50-100 people an asset
  • Working knowledge of the French language an asset
  • Experience with digital photography, videography, editing, social media platforms, etc. an asset

Accommodations (shared) may be available on-site (quad or double bunk room). Candidates should enjoy working both indoors and outdoors, in a variety of settings. The ability to thrive as part of a close-knit team in challenging situations and a live/work environment is important.
