Heavy Equipment Operator

Location: Oro-Medonte, ON
Position: Full-time
Work Environment: Aggregate Pit

 The Opportunity

Sarjeant Co. Ltd. is seeking Heavy Equipment Operators with strong mechanical skills to join our team at our aggregate pit in Oro-Medonte. The primary responsibility is to safely operate heavy equipment to move raw aggregate material from banks and stockpiles to screening, washing, and crushing plants or into trucks.

 Key Responsibilities

• Operate loaders, excavators, and other heavy equipment to transfer aggregate materials
• Load trucks and maintain efficient material flow to processing plants
• Monitor material transfer and equipment operation to prevent issues
• Complete daily pre-start inspections and report deficiencies or malfunctions
• Perform routine equipment maintenance, including greasing and checking fluid levels
• Maintain haul routes and work areas in a safe and orderly condition
• Follow all company policies, operating procedures, and safety requirements
• Properly use and maintain required personal protective equipment (PPE)
• Attend required training and safety meetings
• Promptly report accidents, incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions
• Maintain a professional and positive attitude
• Perform other duties as required to support pit operations

Qualifications & Skills

• Experience operating heavy equipment such as loaders and excavators, preferably in an open-pit environment
• Ability to safely load trucks of various sizes
• Mechanical aptitude and willingness to perform basic equipment maintenance
• Heavy equipment operating experience, apprenticeship training, or relevant industry courses
• Surface Miner Common Core training is an asset
• Basic understanding of heavy equipment safety
• Basic reading, writing, and math skills
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions and safety procedures
• Reliable team player with the ability to take direction and maintain a consistent work schedule
• Previous construction or aggregate industry experience is an asset

Working & Physical Requirements

This position involves working primarily outdoors and may include exposure to wet or humid conditions, dust, noise, moving mechanical parts, and extreme hot or cold temperatures.

The role requires the ability to sit, stand, walk, climb, kneel, bend, reach, and operate heavy equipment for extended periods. Candidates must also be able to safely lift and move materials weighing up to 100 lbs. and perform general site duties such as shoveling, raking, and cleanup.
