Food Handler

The Food Handler at Ferris Lane Community Daycare works in tandem with the caterer as well as the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit to provide nutritional food for the children while meeting Health and Safety requirements.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Certified Safe Food Handler certificate
- Valid standard First Aid and CPR certificate (within 3 months of hire)
- Proof of Immunization
- Current tb test
- Doctor note saying fit to work.
- Ability to maintain good working relationships with staff
- Ability to adhere to tight schedules, set priorities and to adapt to minor changes of schedule and routine
- Ability to lift heavy objects
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Ability to stand for long periods of time
- Ability to work in an environment which may be noisy, hot, humid, steamy, etc.
- Ability to work with chemical substances contained in cleaning supplies
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Distribute all food served in the program, specifically lunch and snacks in the accordance with fluctuating attendance
- Keep supervisor informed of needed food and cleaning supplies promptly
- Responsible for keeping kitchen, kitchen equipment and food storage areas clean, tidy and in good working order, in accordance with the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit
- Report faulty or damaged equipment to the supervisor immediately
WORK PROCEDURES
- Check children’s special dietary needs (allergies, restrictions, etc) to ensure proper food has been delivered
- Set up trays and any serving utensils as required
- Distribute food and materials as per projected attendance
- Wash and dry dishes, pots and pans, load and unload dishwasher. Air dry all dishes before storing items after cleaning
- Clean and disinfect stoves, refrigerators, freezers, garbage, shelves, window ledges, doors and any other utensils and equipment used in the preparation of food in serving areas as required
- Bag and remove garbage daily
- Maintain proper storage of food by receiving food and other supplies, ensuring correct quantities are delivered and stored in the appropriate storage areas promptly
Hours: 10 am to 2 pm Monday to Friday
